Good $ense...Biblical Financial Principles for Transforming Your Finances and Life

by Dick Towner and John Tofilon

Developed by the Willow Creek Association, Good $ense has been widely used within the stewardship ministry of many denominations. Its primary focus is helping people to form financial decisions based upon biblical principles. As it comes to earning, giving, saving, spending, debt management, making a spending plan and record keeping, the Good $ense program offers excellent ideas that are practical and easy to implement.

Even though most people tend not to discuss money, it is critical for all believers to understand its importance. We are equipped to earn it. For a huge portion of our life we make it. We spend time deciding how to deal with it. We save and invest to make more of it. Money can consume our thoughts. Even in the Christian household, the average level of household and personal debt is staggering. Money is often misused and often abused. Because of this, the Church can and must offer solid teaching that will help people learn biblical principles for handling finances. To do so will bless lives and strengthen the witness of the Church.

COMMENTARY

I encourage you to consider Good $ense. As you refer to the "Resources" page of this web site, please notice the workshop and teaching session offered using this material. I have come to realize that congregations want to be financially stable at all levels. Financial stability depends on members understanding the gift of money entrusted to them by the Lord. It is God who gives all people an ability to earn and the wisdom of how to give, save and spend. If you want to help your people be better stewards, the use of money must be among those aspects of faithful discipleship that are taught and encouraged through the Church. Again, the amazing result as experienced by the many people and congregations across the ecumenical community that have taught the biblical principles of finances is that lives have been profoundly blessed and the church has been remarkably strengthened.
